Mount Vernon Christian Middle School serves as a transition between Elementary and High School. Our distinctively Christian perspective meets the needs of our students as they move toward greater independence and ownership of their actions and education. This perspective is demonstrated in our academics, the arts, sports and service which promotes a journey of faith, excellence and integrity.
Middle School Student Handbook
CORE PROGRAM
Middle School students receive instruction from an overtly Christian worldview. The essential truths of the Bible are incorporated into the daily lessons offered in Literature and Writing; Science; Mathematics, Pre-Algebra and Algebra; Geography, Washington State and United States History and Bible. Additional required courses are offered in Art, Physical Education, Band and Choir. Middle school students participate in a variety of exploratory classes on a quarterly basis.
CLASS SIZE
Homeroom classes in the middle school average 25 students, allowing students and teachers to partner in the thinking and learning process. The classroom communities are designed with the idea that students will develop knowledge, wisdom and discernment as they become the young people God intends them to be in Christ.
ASSESSMENT
Beside formative and summative classroom assessments, all middle school students participate in aimswebPlus, an online assessment, data management, and reporting system that provides national and local performance and growth norms for the screening and progress monitoring of math and reading skills. Students test in the Fall, Winter and Spring via chromebooks. Students also participate in Iowa Test of Basic Skills each spring. Results typically indicate that our students remain consistent in above average academic skill development within their grade levels and 91% of them are within or above grade level on these national assessments.
