In ELA (6th grade), we just completed a Chocolate Collection unit. This unit focuses on reading informational text, researching effectively (how to be good discerners of information on the internet), and argumentative writing. We read various articles, letters, and stories to learn about how cacao beans are processed using child labor, the history of chocolate, and how chocolate was used in Ancient Times as medicine or currency. We also learned about Fair Trade Chocolate which supports cacao plantations that pay their farmers/workers a fair wage. In the end, we celebrated with a chocolate celebration and wrote an argumentative or informational essay. –Mrs. McCains

As one of the Bible teachers in grades 7-12 for the past 7+ years here at MVC, there are many things that "stand out" as I look back... The number one goal for me is to make an ETERNAL difference in the lives of my students. I look forward with excitement and thanksgiving to walking down "Hallelujah Boulevard" in Heaven and having someone tap me on the shoulder and tell me that something I said or did is one of the reasons they are in Heaven! 🏀 The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball season is officially underway! Both teams kicked off with a win on Monday and are back at it tomorrow!
🔬🦠 Our 7th graders are diving into the world of bacteria! As part of their science exploration, they went on a mission around the school to collect samples and see what types of bacteria grow on different surfaces. From door handles to desks, to Mr. Rast’s water bottle, they're discovering just how much tiny life is all around us!

Mrs. Stiles' 3rd grade class is learning about the importance of voting while engaging in a literacy study.
5th & 6th Grade Road to the White House Study
We are learning about the Electoral College and voting on candy. On Tuesday we are wearing red white and blue and hearing the results. I will also have a 5th-grade parent speaking about the election process in other countries and the process of becoming an American citizen on Tuesday.
